RELEASE, TRANSFORMATION, EXPECTANCY

I picked angel cards in my session today. It seems strange that there might be any value in choosing randomly from among a deck of cards with benevolent qualities printed on them, but there is a providence in the drawing of cards and today they had great significance for me.

The first card was “Release.” That’s what’s been happening. I feel released from a lot of old attitudes and beliefs that were so much a part of me that I couldn’t even see them. Now that I can see them clearly I have the opportunity to choose differently.

All of a sudden I find myself with enormous amounts of unexpected energy. I feel aligned and connected with everything and everyone around me. I come home from work, and I’m not exhausted! I go shopping and find exactly what I’m looking for. Seemingly by accident I run into a person I need to say something to, and say it! I get an impulse to do something – follow it – it works! I feel empowered. I am able to do things. I’m getting confidence to go with my instincts. I don’t have to obsess about every decision.

The other day I found myself with an unexpected half-hour. I thought, yes, I could use that time to paint the roof of the dollhouse we are building for the grandchildren for Christmas! No agonizing – I just did it! The energy I used to spend “trying to decide” – trying to make sure in advance that all my decisions were “correct” – has been released.

I’m finding there are no accidents – there is a reason for everything. This is, paradoxically, similar to one of Mother’s attitudes – but with a crucial difference. Mother had to find reasons, impose reasons. She thought if she could find a reason, assign the blame, then she could control things. What I’m finding now is that if I let go of controlling things, welcome uncertainty, things will happen and reasons will become apparent. A reason is something I recognize, not something I impose. And the reasons are there, whether or not I recognize them at the time. Sometimes I recognize them much later – or not at all.

I can trust in an active way – welcome uncertainty because I see its value. It’s like allowing myself to go in the water and be supported by it instead of flailing and working to keep myself afloat. The fearless thing I need to do is trust, not force myself to go through fears by fighting to overcome them. The miraculous support of the universe is there for me when I am aligned with it. It can’t reach me when I’m flailing. I have to be still and receptive to recognize it.

The second angel card I drew was “Transformation.” My whole way of seeing the world is in upheaval, being unearthed and restructured and set right. The most crucial and almost unbelievable change is the one that replaces fear with trust. I know, I slip back, I am not finished yet – but it is true. I am replacing fear with trust.

The third angel card was “Expectancy.” I need to be willing to expect good things to happen – not demanding, just waiting, holding the positive potential. I don’t have to struggle with it. Just make room for uncertainty, acceptance – make room for the things I can hardly believe are possible.

How different this is from thinking about all the bad things that could possibly go wrong in hopes of warding off disaster. Up to now, I have lived my life from negative expectations. Now I can welcome uncertainty and welcome the good things that come my way. Not expect them – just imagine them and welcome them.

“No matter how qualified or deserving we are, we will never reach
a better life until we can imagine it for ourselves and allow ourselves to have it.”

     -Richard Bach, One, (1988) p. 95
